Network Providers
There are a variety of Supply Chain Operating Networks in the market, each with different focus areas and capabilities. In general, Supply Chain Operating Networks have four important elements:
Connected Community
A community of shippers, carriers, manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, logistics service providers, and/or other trading partners. Instead of companies creating hundreds or thousands of one-to-one connections with their trading partners, they make a single connection to the network, where their trading partners and thousands of other companies are also connected.
Interoperable Applications
Accessible to all parties on the network. Examples include Transportation Management (spanning the full lifecycle from procurement through freight audit and payment); Real-time Visibility (including visibility to orders, shipments, inventory, and greenhouse gas emissions); Collaborative Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishment; Procurement; Order Collaboration; Contract Manufacturing Collaboration; and Trade Compliance capabilities.
Automated Execution
The ability for transactions and workflows to be executed automatically (across platform applications and trading partners) by leveraging real-time data, optimization, machine learning, predictive algorithms, and robotic process automation (RPA) capabilities.
Network-Based BI & Analytics
With tens of thousands of trading partners connected to a single platform, processing millions (or billions) of transactions annually, Supply Chain Operating Networks enable members to compare their performance to others in their industry or the broader market. It also enables them to become more data-driven in their decision making by giving them access to Big Data, putting that data into context via KPIs and benchmarking metrics, and providing data visualization tools to more quickly identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
