It is Friday the 13th. It’s also my wife’s birthday. (Nothing implied, I swear.)
We’re going to spend the afternoon together, starting with getting ice cream for lunch, which is a standard birthday meal in our family. Then we’re going car shopping for the first time in 11 years. When the cost to repair your current car is more than its resale value, it’s time to pick up a monthly car payment again, despite the 6 years of college tuition you still have to pay.
We’re planning to downsize from an 8-passenger SUV to a 5-passenger one. With two kids out of the house, one in college, and one soon to be in college, it’s just me and my wife in the car most days. And if we’re going on a long drive, it’s really just me because my wife falls asleep not long after we hit the road. But I don’t mind; I get to play whatever music I want.
Tonight, I am making dinner for the family: pollo criollo, arroz con frijoles, and because my wife always insists, some kind of green vegetable to go with it.
Then cake, and more ice cream.
With such a sweet ending planned for this Friday the 13th, I better get going.
