In a survey we conducted with our Indago supply chain research community in October 2021, we asked our members, “Which parts of the physical supply chain are the most broken or need the most fixing?” Not surprising, ocean ports ranked first, but labor was a close second. Simply put, the demand for labor across all parts of the supply chain today is significantly greater than available workers. Is the Covid pandemic the main reason for this problem or are there other factors at play? What are the implications for shippers, carriers, and logistics service providers? How can technology help alleviate this problem?
